Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the team enter locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.
